This beautifully photographed film is the story of two aging ex-WWII Polish Air Force pilots now living in Canada. One is wealthy, the other is of modest means. He lives in a small apartment, relentlessly pursued by Olga, an attractive widow. At the same time he begins having flashbacks to his youth when a young actress moves next door. He is shocked. She looks exactly like his long dead wife. He and the girl have a brief affair. But when she moves to New York, he wistfully, perhaps gratefully, turns back to Olga.
